Home      Plays      The Toy Dragon by Rayormy Bowstole
Narrator recites:
"In a cottage not far from the ogres' forest lived a boy named Andy. Andy was a halfling, and when he was really young his grandfather gave him a toy dragon. It was Andy's favorite toy."
Dragon Toy says, "Eh! you try being passed down from kid to kid and look this good!"

Narrator recites:
"Andy loved his toy so much he went everywhere with it. One day he went out to play with his friends, and, of course, he took the dragon with him."
Narrator recites:
"His friends also loved the toy just as much, but wanted Andy to play without it for a while. Andy decided to put his toy under a tree where he could see it."
Andy says, "You rest here while I go play, for a little bit; then I will come get you when I am done!"

Andy kisses the toy dragon on it's head and sets it in the shade.

Narrator recites:
"Andy and his friends played for hours, till it was almost dark. All the other boys were heading home, and Andy could hear his mother calling for him, as well."
Mother yells, "Andy, you get in here and wash up for dinner!"

Andy says, "Oh, it's gettin' late! I got to go home! I forgot to do some chores, and my mom is probably gonna be mad at me."

Narrator recites:
"Andy ran off home so much in a hurry he forgot his toy dragon under the tree."
Dragon Toy says, "It isn't easy not being able to talk and move ya know, and it's getting scary out here!"

Narrator recites:
"Andy got home and ate his dinner. He finished his chores and got ready for bed. While getting into bed he realized he had forgotten his dragon!"
Andy exclaims, "Oh no! I left my toy by the tree, Mom! What if something happens to him?"

Mother says, "We'll get him in the morning, Son. He will be fine. But there are ogres out there now. If we go out, they'll want some of their own dinner, and you know they don't eat toys!"

Mother pokes Andy in the belly.

Mother says, "Now go to sleep, Hun! Don't worry 'bout our dragon."

Andy says, "Ok, Mom. I love you and Dad, and I'll try not to worry about it. Good night!"

Narrator recites:
"Andy went to sleep and began to dream about his toy dragon. He dreamt it was sad and crying."
Toy Dragon says, "Oh where is my boy? He forgot me! He doesn't love me anymore." the toy dragon sniffles, "I am going to fly away!"

Andy sits up in bed and screams, "NOooOoo!"

Narrator recites:
"Luckily that didn't wake anyone up!"
Andy quietly says, "Ya! You're right I better be more quiet!"

Andy says, "I'll sneak out and go get my dragon! I am sneaky enough to get around my parents I think I can sneak around an ogre."

Narrator recites:
"So out his window he climbed. It was very dark out. Shadows and noises were everywhere, scaring poor little Andy. BOO!
Andy yells, "AHHHH!"

Andy pants.

Andy says, "Don't do that! You could give a poor kid a heart attack!

Narrator cackles insanely.

Narrator recites:
"Andy was very determined to get his beloved toy back. He finally arrived at the tree where he and placed his dragon!"
Andy says, "Gone! He really did fly away! "

Andy falls to the ground and starts crying.

Andy sadly exclaims, "Oh dragon, I am so sorry. I didn't mean to leave you. Please come back!"

Andy slowly stands up with his head hung down, and mopes home. Andy crawls back into bed and cries himself to sleep.

Narrator recites:
"In the morning his mother calls him down for breakfast."
Mother yells, "Andy, are you up? It's time to eat breakfast, Son!

Andy sadly gets up and makes his way down stairs to eat.

Mother asks, "What is wrong, my dear?"

Andy sadly asks, "Oh my dragon, Mom, what if it isn't there?"

Andy sadly asks, "What if he flew away 'cuz he thought I didn't want him anymore?"

Mother says, "Oh nonsense, Andy. A toy can't fly."

Mother says, "You can go get him when you're done eating your food and getting dressed.

Narrator recites:
"Andy slowly ate his breakfast, then went upstairs to his room to get dressed for the day. When he opened his door there sitting on his bed was his toy dragon.
Andy happily exclaims, "Wow! You came home!"

Andy snatched up his toy dragon, hugging it tight.

Dragon Toy exclaims, "Gasp! Let loose, Child, I can't breathe!"

Andy happily says, "I'm sorry, Dragon! I didn't mean to leave you. I'm glad you flew back to me."

Andy says, "I'm lucky I left my window open after I came home last night. I hoped you would return. I'll never leave you ever again."

Mother asks, "Who are you talking to?

Andy ran out of his room and hugged his mom.

Andy says, "Look, Mom, Dragon came back! He flew back to me through my window."

Mother says, "Oh! He did, did he? Well, I'm glad he's back. Now go play."
Narrator recites:
"Andy's mother went back down stairs into the kitchen where Andy's dad was reading the daily scroll."
Dad asks, "What was that all about dear?"

Mother says, "Oh nothing, Hun. Thanks for going to get his dragon last night for him. I don't think he will leave it again."

Mother hugs and kisses Dad.

Narrator recites:
"Andy never did leave his toy alone again and always had a friend to talk to."
Dragon Toy exclaims, "I just wish I could talk back. I would tell him to be quiet!"

Narrator recites: "THE END!"
